Special moment: Roparun relay race
Literally ‘going the extra mile’ for people in need
Royal FloraHolland and its employees have committed this worthy cause, which involves supporting people with cancer. The Royal FloraHolland Roparun (Rotterdam-Paris run) team ‘walked the talk’ during the Whitsun bank holiday weekend in 2018, when they – literally – went the extra mile during their twentieth Roparun relay event.
CEO Steven van Schilfgaarde addressed the 27-member Roparun team before they left the Netherlands, expressing his admiration for the team’s commitment, teamwork and performance, and called the 27 men and women an example for everyone at Royal FloraHolland.
From Paris to Rotterdam
During the Roparun event, the team walked from Paris to Rotterdam, a distance of 520 kilometres.
They raised a total of €30,000 with their walk, having organised a variety of activities throughout the year to raise these funds. More than 350 teams participate in the Roparun altogether. The organising foundation, Stichting Roparun, uses the funds collectively raised by the teams to add a little colour and joy to the lives of people with cancer and their families. Or, in the words of the Roparun organisation: ‘by adding life to people’s days when those days are numbered.’
The Royal FloraHolland Roparun team includes participants, assistants, masseurs, caterers, a photographer and a cameraperson, bus drivers and a team captain. The team members are employed at our three export sites and represent all levels of the company.
